IICD supported project: Enhancing the Visual and Presentation of Educational Content - Zambia
The project is supported by IICD since 2006. The Mpelemb Secondary school and 6 other schools jointly own the ENEDCO project. The ENEDCO project aims to improve content so that teaching is more effective and the project’s principle focus lies in the visual representation of the content of existing teaching materials. The users of the project are the teachers who use the visualized teaching materials. Other beneficiaries include schools in the vicinity. An important and integral part of this project is the need to disseminate information to other schools interested in the improved teaching materials. Equally important is the fact that these schools are already engaged in other educational related collaborative initiatives.
- Increased capacity in ICTs at Mpelembe and pilot schools to enable them to develop materials
- Promoted the exchange of knowledge gained in this project by establishing and supporting teacher’s networks.
- Developed several visual enhanced teaching material
- Increased awareness of the potential of ICTs by school management
As indicated in the problem analysis, the Ministry of Education has set goals and formulated strategies to address the challenges they are currently facing. Particularly, where ICTs are recognised and treated as an integral part of the measures taken, especially with regard to access to education and improvement of teaching and learning.

Gonzalo Portal, the project leader, explains about the background, impact and future challenges for this project.
At the initial stage the structures have to be put in place, such as the Project Implementation Team, coordination with resource organizations and Ministry of Education have to be established and maintained. Mpelembe would lead the Project Implementation Team, which will comprise all 7 pilot schools. A Memorandum of Understanding between Mpelembe and the pilot schools will be developed and signed.
