- In the innovative Telemedicine project, doctors can upload medical cases to an online platform, and receive consultations from peer doctors in Tanzania and abroad. The project also enables the development of best practices and a platform for awareness raising, knowledge exchange and policy making in telemedicine. The owner of the project, the Evangelical Lutheran Church Tanzania (ELCT), provides about 15% of the national health services in Tanzania. This telemedicine project involves approximately 200 doctors and 10,000 patients. The project started in 2008 and is closely linked to another project run by the ELCT on Health Management Information Services (HMIS).

- The project will create an integrated patient system at 15 sites , in 5 districts in the Western province of Zambia. This Project Proposal is a product of the Diocese of Mongu whose goal is to promote health and improve the health status of the community’s of the Western Province of Zambia. The Diocese of Mongu covers an area of 67,293 Square (Sq). Kilometers (Kms), and has a population of 622,450 people (CSO 2002).

- The project will develop and implement an appropriate computer based “Blood Donor Tracking System”. The project aims to establish a reliable computer-based blood donor database management system in order to significantly enhance data accuracy, efficiency and effectiveness, to reduce on the risks of incorrect identification of donors and blood units, and ensure blood safety.

- Ghana’s Ministry of Communications, through its agency GIFTEL, Ghana Investment Fund for Telecommunications, is constructing 230 Community Information Centres (CICs) as hybrid for profit and non-profit community resource centres to provide business services and community development information for remote communities with the aim to provide community information needs and enhance national integration; create ICT awareness in the rural areas; disseminate information to the rural communities especially in areas of education, agriculture, environment, health, local government; provide opportunities for ICT training in the communities; support business activities in the rural communities and support community-based organisations. Depending on the requirements of the particular District Assemblies, the support from IICD will target ten centres while providing strategic advice to Ministry and Assemblies in terms of the technical, organizational and financial sustainability of the CICs and further providing technical and business development training for CIC staff members, advising on connectivity solutions, deploying monitoring and evaluation tools, as well as facilitating knowledge sharing through the national ICT4D network GINKS.

- The committee is developing an ICT-driven socio-economic development policy and plan - rather than a sectoral ICT policy - that will aid Ghana’s developmental effort and with the intent that the economy and society will move towards becoming a knowledge-based information society and economy.
