This project supports youth with learning problems through an interactive internet-based learning programme for Literacy and Mathematics. The programme is particularly developed by and for Jamaicans and thus adapted to the local context.

In Jamaica, many problems persist with low levels of basic skills and knowledge about English and Mathematics due to early school drop out or low levels of school results at the end of secondary school. Remedial learning programmes are therefore essential to level the basic qualities of young people. This new interactive tool can provide in part of the solution for this problem.

The project is succesfully implemented. The project has trained:

  • 500 youth participated in the first training module for English literacy
  • 20 facilitators of 10 national vocational training centres of Heart Trust-NTA
  • 18 facilitators of 9 participating community based organisations (Wordcraft 1).

A second training phase is planned for English Grammer (Wordcraft 2) and Mathematics (Math Craft).

The integration in the 10 national vocational training centres is very promising. Another organisation, the Truth Tabernacle Pentecostal Centre, has joined the initiative.

Training of young people in basic literacy and mathematics to level their basic skills and knowledge. Particularly focusing on school leavers and drop outs.

The project has been successful in terms of its introduction in the 10 national vocational training centres of Jamaica.

The project is managed by the national ICT4D Jamaica network and funded with support of the Japanes Grass Roots Fund.
