The association of Pharmacists in Mali, Conseil de l’Ordre des Pharmaciens du Mali (COPM), aims to rationalize the communication and information flows with its constituency. It made the first steps by developing a dynamic website (http://www.copm-mali.org) which will allow pharmacists to be informed on the latest developments in their field, and which will give them the opportunity to update their own information through the provision of personal pages.
Strategizing ICT for Health - Tanzania by Web editor — last modified 2008-06-05 12:16
In line with Tanzania’s national ICT policy, the Ministry of Health is developing an ICT policy and implementation strategy for the health sector. Chief executives realize the potential of ICT, but awareness and capacity at broader levels need to be increased. Therefore, in this project, the Christian Social Services Commission (CSSC), Commission on Science and Technology (COSTECH) and the Ministry appeal ICT awareness raising among its staff and stakeholders and capacity building to develop an ICT implementation strategy and working paper.
Modular Strategic Implementation of ICT in Health Care Facilities - Tanzania by Web editor — last modified 2008-06-05 10:21
It is widely accepted that ICTs can assist various functions of health care facilities. However, for ICT to improve the quality and efficiency of delivering health care, a clear strategic model is needed to ensure a phased implementation of the particular model that best suits the various characteristics and requirements of each health care facility. In this project ICT is implemented in two district hospitals using the above philosophy. The first is Magu District Hospital which is going to use the Connectivity and Health Management Information Systems (HMIS) modules and the second is Sengerema Designated District Hospital which will implement the Connectivity, Continuous Professional Development, and Public Internet Facility modules. Both hospitals will share their experiences in a community of practice.
WebPortal Services Afya Net - Tanzania by Web editor — last modified 2008-06-02 13:29
The implementation of ICT in the health sector requires knowledge, best practices and appropriate procedures to spread through the sector and to professionalize health management. AfyaMtandao (HealthNet in Swahili) will contribute to this. In view of the present dispersed ICT initiatives in the health sector, a platform to share experiences and to pool ‘demand’ will generate considerable added value and provide cost effective solutions.

Secondly, AfyaMtandao will provide local ICT support services like ICT training, ICT helpdesk, quality standards for the local ICT industry and brokerage/pooling of bandwidth provision. AfyaMtandao will develop based on the needs articulated by its members. It will be complementary to existing initiatives and developments in the market sector.
Development of a Management System for Health Facility - Tanzania by Web editor — last modified 2008-05-05 15:48
The project aims to develop a customized Health Management Information System (HMIS) to use in hospitals of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Tanzania (ELCT). The HMIS collects health data to be used by the hospital management, and also to meet the needs of the MTUHA, the government registration system for the health sector. The HMIS is based on open source software. Software includes patient registering, billing, laboratory, pharmacy, stock/inventory, x-ray, doctors’ office and ward management. Within the pilot phase, the project will start in one clinic and, if successful it will be rolled out to other hospitals, health centres and dispensaries. Change management is a key component.
