Since the end of 2006 IICD is cooperating with War Child to formulate and (partly) implement a pilot project of nine months in a series of activities. The project “ICT in governance in war affected districts” covers three districts in Northern Uganda: Gulu, Kitgum and Lira.

IT company Altran, part of the French Altran Group, recently signed an agreement for three years with IICD. The company will send her employees to development projects in Africa. The collaboration is mainly focusing on sharing knowledge and expertise in the field of e-governance with both IICD and its local partners in Africa who want to apply ICT to alleviate poverty and to improve basic facilities like good governance.

IICD has been collaborating with the Dutch subsidiary of the consultancy organization, Altran, since October 2007 on several IICD-supported projects that need technical assistance and advice about eGovernance. Altran consultants will spend the first year focussing on projects in Tanzania and Zambia, possibly expanding to other countries at a later date.

The recently held Connect Africa Summit in Kigali, Rwanda had two aims: to bring connectivity to Africa and to promote ‘Connect Africa’, a new partnership that seeks to expand the ICT infrastructure in Africa, especially Internet broadband.
