Projects in Mali

Project Quality & FRUILEMA - Mali
During Q1, the project addressed some of its structural challenges related to ownership, internal organization, external relations and capacity development. Several training workshops were attended by the Fruilema members, and appointments were made with Manobi to come to Bamako in April 2010 and deliver the PDA's and according training on the use of these devices for data collection in April 2010.
Project Teleradiology in Mali (IKON) - Mali
Despite a drop in the number of teleconsultations requests from Timbuktu, over the period April-December 2009 the total amount of teleservices by IKON has significantly raised to 1550 - almost 200 per month. This rise can be explained by the addition of the regional hospitals of Segou and Kayes to the project, and by the service contract between IKON and the gold mine company of Morila.
Project OpenYaLIM E-health Software Development Poject - Mali
The project has suffered considerable delay because developers were difficult to retain, but the software is now operational and is being field-tested with IKON and CERTES and the hospital of Mopti. Further improvements are being made with the feedback of the users.
Project Jefako Gelekan - Rural Information System for Farmers in the Sikasso region - Mali
CRCR is rapidly enforcing its position of defender and negotiator of farmers' interests in the Sikasso province. It has become an almost inevitable intermediary between government and farmers, and an important actor for development agency programs. CRCR and some of its member organisations have gained more visibility, and are able to better identify and concretize (financing, capacity development) opportunities. During 2010, IICD will support CRCR in developing a more fine-mazed agriculture monitoring system which will enhance the Food Security Programme CRCR has negotiated with SDC.
Project Shea Butter and ICT - Mali
From January 2010 on, the project went into independent continuation. Together with Coprokazan and AMPJ, IICD will work on a harvesting document during 2010. It is clear that the project contributed to the capacity development of many women of COPROKAZAN, and did have a pronounced economic impact. The economic figures in Q1 2010 indicate that both production and revenues are still rising. The PM considers to start new activities with Coprokazan, related to value chain development, from 2011 on.
Project Rural Information System for the Mandé Region - Mali
Although the project has gone into independent continuation since 2009, AAAG is proud to share its progress through regular reports to IICD. The multimedia methodology for enhancing of Health sensitization in rural areas is really taking off, and AAAG/Fabema manage to reach increasing numbers of beneficiaries. IICD has facilitated a meeting between AAAG and the National Federation of Community Health Centres (FENASCOM) in order to look into possibilities for common search for funding for upscaling this methodology.
Project E-Health Activities Reference Centre - Mali
While continuing its main activities with IICD, Aga Khan Foundation and HUG, CERTES has initiated two new projects (the IICD-financed E-PACT Sante with the National federation of Community Health Centres FENASCOM, and the IDRC financed research project EquiRhesus) and a series of interesting new activities (a national e-learning programme, a pilot study on Frontline SMS as a tool for Health Information (together with the University of Australia), and an e-learning programme on diabetology together with RAFT and the Universite Numerique Francophone Mondiale). The teleradiology project IKON has started its integration within CERTES.
Project Chaîne de Télécentres - Mali
Project Sene Kunafoni Bulon - Mali
Much of Q1 2010 was dedicated to the enhancement of the managerial and administrative competences of the 4 project partner organisations within SKB, as lined out as a priority by the Output to Purpose Review in 2009. Next to this capacity building exercice, several ICT-related cap dev activities were attended by project members of SKB (Open Source seminar, SMS seminar, web2.0 workshop). SKB was able to sign a memorandum with the WorldBank funded PCDA programme for a 15.000 euro project on monitoring the mango campaign in the province of Sikasso.
Project Soleil Artnet - Promoting the Visibility of Artists - Mali
The project continues its activities independently from IICD financial support, and has received financial support by HIVOS for its general programme.
