Burkina faso

Since 1997, IICD has been active in Burkina Faso in education and agricultural livelihoods.

In a country where 75% of the population is illiterate, TV and radio are widely used to spread information to rural areas. The programme TV Koodo brings market price information to over 1 million viewers. Radio is used by the rural women’s group Pag La Yiri to broadcast information on health and agriculture in seven local languages. In Education, teachers learn to use computers to pool education resources and share them online. They also learned how to create their own websites, and a number received national awards. Multimedia – digital photography and presentations – are used to teach farmers better production practices, and to spread health and sanitation information to communities in isolated areas.

In 2010, we reached 420,000 people including 525 direct users of the technologies and training provided by eight programmes.

The national ICT4D network Burkina NTIC organises offline and online knowledge sharing events for all the ICT4D initiatives in the country and in the region.
