National Knowledge Sharing

As part of our strategy to strengthen local initiatives in the countries where IICD is active, we support the creation and operation of National ICT for Development (ICT4D) Networks. These networks bring our partners together with other interested parties in a 'community of interest'.

Activities undertaken by the networks include arranging meetings, producing newsletters, stimulating local research, training, and generating and sharing lessons learned. The networks also maintain a local ICT4D website and use the Dgroups online platform as an extension to their face-to-face activities. The networks share and learn as a community, but also bring ICT for development to the attention of both the general public and policymakers.

Websites created and maintained by the National ICT4D Networks:

Bolivia: www.ticbolivia.net
Burkina Faso: www.burkina-ntic.org
Ecuador: www.infodesarrollo.ec
Ghana: www.ginks.org
Jamaica: www.ict4djamaica.org
Mali: www.mali-ntic.com
Tanzania:

www.mwanzacommunity.org and

www.swopnet.or.tz

Uganda: www.i-network.or.ug
Zambia: www.ebrain.org.zm

Dgroups used by the National ICT4D Networks:

Bolivia: ComiteRedTICBolivia (private)
Burkina Faso: Burkina NTIC
Ecuador: Red de miembros de Infodesarrollo.ec
Ghana: GINKS (open)
Jamaica: ICT4DJamaica (open)
Mali: -
Tanzania: MwanzaCommunity and SWOPNET(open)
Uganda: I-Network Uganda (open)
Zambia: e-Brain

Sub-communities of interest often form within the National ICT4D Networks. Examples are GINKS Women in ICT4D, TIC-EDU-BF and I-Network Health Node. These tend to be demand driven, and focussed on specific themes. Based on their needs and goals these local thematic communities undertake a variety of knowledge sharing activities. Activities can include organising local thematic events, sharing information resources and online collaboration.
