It targets Livelihoods and Life Skills Training programmes that are being carried out by community-based organisations for disadvantaged members of the communities. Most focus on the marginalised groups of Youth and Women that are expected to sustain the households, often without having enjoyed any formal education or having any professional skills. The IICD-supported project focuses on the integration of ICTs in the curriculum, content development and equipping the lecturers with the necessary teaching skills and knowledge. This fits into the policy of the Ministry of Education, which strongly promotes the use of ICTs in the educational system. The purpose of the project is to contribute to the improvement of the quality of teaching by using ICT to facilitate a learner-centred approach. The medium-term perspective is to fully mainstream the project activities within the college. This entails having all departments involved and the content of all subjects offered by the college adapted.
        <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher>
        <dc:rights></dc:rights> <dc:subject>ICT4D</dc:subject> <dc:subject>IICD project</dc:subject>
        <dc:type>IICDproject</dc:type>

Access to organic markets for small-scale farmers requires proper organic production standards and certification, and in order to achieve these standards, it is necessary that they establish and implement an Internal Control System (ICS).</p><p>This monitoring, traceability and documentation system assists the farmer groups in generating the necessary data needed to maintain quality standards and crop quantities. Furthermore, the management of an ICS reduces the overhead costs involved in certification, which are otherwise too high for most small-scale farmers. The system will be tested at three pilot sites (Chongwe, Mongu and Mpongwe). The collected data on production methods and international quality standards for organic produce will be published on the internet for international partners who would like to buy their produce. The system has therefore a double function as internal control system and as marketing tool.
        <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher>
        <dc:rights></dc:rights> <dc:subject>IICD project</dc:subject>
        <dc:type>IICDproject</dc:type>

It also provides them a strong basis in communication skills while offering valuable insights into other cultures. At the same time, GTP gives secondary schools a kick-start in the use of ICT and enlivens the educational process as teachers incorporate new ideas and methods into their classes. </p><p>
Zambia&rsquo;s GTP currently involves fifteen secondary schools from Lusaka, but plans to include twenty-five schools by the end of 2008, with most of the new schools coming from outside Lusaka. Objectives specific to GTP Zambia involve developing ICT skills for students and teachers across Zambia; enhancing the public profile of GTP Zambia; creating a website as well as soliciting press coverage in order to create further opportunities to expand GTP to more schools, especially outside of Lusaka.
        <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher>
        <dc:rights></dc:rights> <dc:subject>IICD project</dc:subject>
        <dc:type>IICDproject</dc:type>

Information flows have become slow and ineffective, and the use of ICTs can significantly improve this, especially in terms of the level of efficiency in gathering, processing and disseminating knowledge.

This project involves managing the information flow between Lusaka and Kasama. Currently, there is one extension worker to approximately 1000 farmers, and most information is collected in person from sources and then stored as hard copy. Sometimes it is delivered in a format or language inaccessible to local farmers. Overall, this project aims to improve information flow within NAIS; strengthen linkages between agricultural research, extension, farmers and other stakeholders; increase the capacity of NAIS to collect, process, package, store and disseminate agricultural information and increase capacity of NAIS to publish in more accurate and appropriate formats.
        <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher>
        <dc:rights></dc:rights> <dc:subject>ICT4D</dc:subject> <dc:subject>IICD project</dc:subject>
        <dc:type>IICDproject</dc:type>

The ICT Integration, Multimedia & Recording (CYPRO) project has been built on this goal, designed specifically to support the artistic talent of the local youths, by offering them the opportunity to develop recording and production skills. They will learn to create CD Roms with their music, and from there, further assistance will be offered to help market their music. Another component of the project is information provision. The policy complements and builds upon the National Vision 2030, the Firth National Development Plan, the National ICT Policy and the Ministry of Education Policy ‘Educating our Future’. The policy further provides key strategies that are essential for achieving Zambia’s educational development goals. </p><p>
As a follow up to achieve the goals of the ICT policy, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has identified a large number of ICT-related programmes and gathered them in an Implementation Plan for 2007 - 2010 Many of these programmes can be implemented quickly and provide rapid benefits, others lay the foundation on which the full ICT policy programmes can be implemented in coming years. Prompt design and implementation of the identified activities must be seen as high priority for the Ministry if the ICT Policy to maintain progress and deliver early results.
        <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher>
        <dc:rights></dc:rights> <dc:subject>IICD project</dc:subject>
        <dc:type>IICDproject</dc:type>

The main objective of the project is to improve content so that teaching is more effective and the project’s principle focus lies in the visual representation of the content of existing teaching materials. It involves adding to or substituting certain content with visually supported content. The project member creates a variety of visual content or, where necessary, obtains this from available sources for a selected set of commonly incomprehensible school content. The users of the project are teachers in the seven schools who will be using the visualized teaching materials. Other beneficiaries are schools in the vicinity. An important and integral part of this project is the need to disseminate information to other schools interested in the improved teaching materials. Equally important is the fact that these schools are already engaged in other educational related collaborative initiatives.
        <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher>
        <dc:rights></dc:rights> <dc:subject>IICD project</dc:subject>
        <dc:type>IICDproject</dc:type>
