- Sene Kunafoni Bulon — by Web editor — last modified 2008-02-04 12:07
- IER-TRANS is a branch of Mali’s national Institute for Agricultural Research (IER) that focuses on the transformation chain of products like mangos, onions, potatoes, etc. The regional bureau of IER-TRANS was set up in Sikasso in 2002. Over the past four years it has established close relationships with organisations of mango producers and mango transformers and the Federation of Potato Producers. In response to requests made by its members, it looks up information on production and transformation methods and passes it on to them. The project will improve the flow of information to and from IER-TRANS and between farmers in the region.

This database will be coupled with a website. The available information will be disseminated to various stakeholders such as producers, trackers, collectors, importers.
- Jekafo Gelekan: Rural Information System for Farmers in the Sikasso Region — by Web editor — last modified 2008-03-17 10:51
- The Regional Committee for Coordination of Rural People (CRCR) in Sikasso has initiated the project Jèkafo Guèlèkan, meaning “let’s speak together under the palaver tree”. The projects focuses on linking the Local Committees for Coordination of Farmers’ Organisations (CLCOPs) to local sections of farmers’ organisations of CRCR in the Sikasso area. The aim is to set up a communication system for agricultural producers affiliated to CRCR - which comprises 215 local organisations (of which 115 are women’s organisations) - and other stakeholders in the development of the Sikasso region. By using ICT, rural dwellers – both producers and processors – can learn about opportunities for improving their economic situation and to help them take advantage of such opportunities.
- ICT for shea butter producers — by admin — last modified 2008-02-04 14:39
- The aim of the project is to promote shea butter while at the same time increasing the turnover of the Zantiébougou Women Shea Butter Producers Cooperative (COPROKAZAN) through the use of NICT. To achieve this goal, the project calls for the installation of lighting and computers, training of women in the use of standard software and office automation tools, installation of e-mail, creation of a website, and advertising on radio and television.
- Cyberpharma — by admin — last modified 2006-12-08 12:04
- The association of Pharmacists in Mali, Coordination Nationale des Organisations Paysannes du Mali (CNOP), aims to rationalise the communication and information flows with its constituency. It made the first steps by developing a dynamic website (http://www.cnop-mali.org) which will allow pharmacists to be informed on the latest developments in their field, and which will give them the opportunity to update their own information through the provision of personal pages.
- Soleil Artnet — by admin — last modified 2008-02-01 11:15
- Soleil d’Afrique is an association of visual artists in Mali, which wants to promote the visibility and economical viability of artists through national and international exchanges. The project Soleil Artnet aims at empowering artists via the provision of a computer graphics work and training centre in Bamako – a place where artists can (learn to) use computer technology to widen and/or perfection their scope of work, get in touch and exchange with other artists abroad through the Internet, and promote their work through the Internet.
- Teleradiology via the Internet (IKON) — by admin — last modified 2008-03-10 13:38
- Telemedicine is a relatively new development in the health sector whereby modern communication technology enables doctors in rural areas to call in the help of specialised doctors in larger, academic hospitals to give the right diagnose and to decide upon the right course of treatment. In Mali, IICD assisted SOMIM (Société Malienne d’Imagerie Médicale) with setting up internet connection between the hospital Point GP in Bamako and three hospitals in the rural areas of Timbuktu, Mopti and Sikasso to experiment with teleradiology. The teleradiology project provides a solution for the lack of trained radiologists in rural hospitals, by offering the possibility to send or receive x-ray scans and diagnosis over the internet. After a difficult start doctors from three rural hospitals now use the technology. The health care in rural areas has significantly improved as patients get a quicker diagnosis and better medical treatment. The project has even proved able to save people’s lives!
- Information Network in Mandé — by admin — last modified 2008-02-04 12:50
- This project will try to solve the information and communication problems of farmers in the Mandé region, south of Bamako in Mali. The almost total lack of infrastructure in this region makes it very difficult for the implementing organisation Fabema to reach its constituent members and to inform them about activities, awareness workshops and market prices. Through a combination of telephone-Internet technology and an audio-based radio communication system (RAC), this project will establish a pilot network between the small town Bancoumana (where Fabema's headquarters are located) and Bamako (where the offices of 3AG are located) on the one hand, and four villages on the other hand.
- Keneya-blown — by admin — last modified 2008-02-04 12:48
- The project Keneya Blown, or in the local language of Bamanan 'Health Portal', was started in September 2000 as a pilot project. During this pilot phase a network between two regional and all national hospitals was established and a website with medical information was developed. The project has reached its second phase, which aims at improving the services developed during the pilot phase of the project: raise awareness about ICT for health, extend the number of health workers reached with the project, offer medical training on-line, develop skills to produce local medical information, train health workers in the use of ICTs and offer internet facilities to the health sector.
- Strategy to set-up 701 municipal telecentres to make decentralisation effective — by admin — last modified 2008-02-04 12:50
- Mali is a large country of 12,4 M square km and with 10 Million people. It has human development and tele-density indexes that are amongst the lowest in the world. Mali has a vigorous policy of decentralisation to establish local democracy, development and good Governance. The President of Mali has set the national objective of having a telecenter in each of its recently created 701 local governments within next two years. IICD has been requested to assist in the translation process from policy statement to a telecenter used by local people, members of the local municipal councils and officials. For the development of the malien democracy the stakes are high. Decentralisation should not only promote local Governance and development, but is has to bridge the gap between the administration and the population. The decentralisation process has gone rapidly; new legislation is adopted, new procedures are developed and the local councils are elected. The challenge is to turn the new structures operational, to assure transparency and credibility. For the champion of this process, the Minister of Home Affairs Mr. Ousmane Sy, smooth communication between all actors is essential.
- Community telecentres in urban areas — by admin — last modified 2008-02-04 12:49
- Mali has launched an ambitious programme to set up 701 télécentres over next years as to support the newly created local governments (701 municipalities) and to promote development. This project is a part of the 701-telecenter programme (see project ID: Strategy to set-up 701 municipal télécentres to make decentralisation effective).). The strategy emphasises that the local community takes the initiative to establish a télécentres and to define its basic functionality's. Possible uses include: E-mail and voice messaging, Secretarial services (writing letters, filling in forms etc.) Information exchange between councillors and the public, Support services to councillors and the administration Other uses were indicated by the ICT Roundtable workshop held in July 2000 in Bamako. This Roundtable was organised by the by three ministries involved - home affairs including local government, the ministry of communication and the ministry of culture. It brought together 60 participants representing local governments, ISPs, community representatives, NGOs and key ministries such as health and education. The results of the Roundtable included the formulation of a télécentres concept and identification of key strategy components for the 701-telecenter programme to the satisfaction of all persons involved.
