Towards the end of 2007 the ECAMIC project of the SEND foundation in Ghana started using mobiles phones to improve market access for rural farming communities. In January 2008 Shafiu Shaibu from the SEND Foundation paid a visit to the Netherlands.

Spyker, the car producer of the exclusive Spyker cars, and Connect4, a Customized Design Manufacturer of exclusive telecom and consumer electronics, have handed out the first Golden Spyker Award to IICD. With the award comes a very exclusive mobile phone of pure gold and set with 26-karaat diamonds, the Spyker Jewel, which will be sold in May this year for an expected price of 50,000 euros. IICD will receive € 0,50 for each Spyker mobile telephone sold.

In 2003, the Eastern Corridor Agro-Information Centre (ECAMIC) project began supporting farmers in Ghana’s Eastern Corridor by setting up cooperative farmer groups. In 2005, the Social Enterprise Foundation of West Africa (SEND), which began the project, signed an agreement with IICD, in collaboration with Cordaid, for a two-year project to develop a market information facility to serve 24 community-based farming cooperatives. Today, the project is focussing on developing the capacity and efficiency of the farmers through the deployment and use of mobile phones.

This impact study is part of a series of publications on the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in various sectors in developing countries. As Ghana takes a retrospective view of its fifty years of independence and draw plans for the next fifty years, one factor that has been at the center of its plans is taking opportunity of ICTs to accelerate its socio-economic growth. To this end, this month’s Cyber Series Forum, which was under the theme, ‘Ghana @ 50, ICTs @ what?’, sought to assess the contribution of ICT to the socio-economic growth of the country and how best this opportunity can be taken advantage of. Resource persons for the forum were drawn from the academia, ICT sector and civil/public service. The Cyber Series Forum was held on 1st March 2007.

Ghana was ably represented by thirteen students and two teacher coaches at the just ended Internet website contest for African youth between 12-18 year old school level learners and 19-22 year old University level students. The Mtandao Afrika Youth Camp and Awards Event was held in Cairo-Egypt from 2nd to 6th March 2007.

Report on proceedings of cyber series forum held at busy internet on the 8th day of February 2007. This month's Cyber Series forum, which also happens to be the first in the year 2007, was under the theme, ICT and Banking. The theme of the forum, was a revisit of the November last year forum; an indication that the use of internet/ICT is becoming very familiar with modern day banking and hence more education on this growing phenomenon.

The first ever Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Workshop for women in the Northern region of Ghana has taken place in Tamale, the capital city of the region. The programme was attended by a cross-section of women of varying fields of endeavour ranging from heads of institutions, teachers, traders and social workers among others. A handful of men also took part. It was organized by the Northern region branch of Ghana Information Network for Knowledge Sharing (GINKS), a non-governmental organization advocating ICT.

The Global Teenager project in Ghana was launched in 1999 and seeks to empower young people to have access to ICT for education under the theme; "Integrating ICT in Education in Ghanaian Schools: The Global Teenager Project Initiative."
