Zambian IICD Partner Organises African Organic Farming Conference in Lusaska
Nov 15 2011, Zambia [ZM], Agriculture, Economic Development
The Organic Producers and Processors Association of Zambia, one of IICD’s economic development partners in Zambia, is organising the second All Africa Organic Farming Conference which will take place from 1-3 May 2012.
The conference, which will be held in the capital, Lusaka, targets African and international stakeholders and development partners who are involved in operations which contribute to sustainable agriculture and who work in agriculture, environment, trade and tourism. The conference is co-hosted by the Swedish Organic Company Grolink. Kenneth Kaunda, the first President of Zambia, is the patron of the conference.
This is the second time the conference will be held. In 2009, the conference was held in Uganda. The conference will inform, educate and persuade the general public African Governments and Intergovernmental agencies to understand organic agriculture as a science-based farming approach that can contribute significantly to ensuring food security, alleviating poverty and conserving Africa’s natural resource base.
The conference organiser OPPAZ (the Organic Producers and Processors Association of Zambia) is the national umbrella body coordinating the development of organic agriculture in Zambia. With IICD’s help OPPAZ facilitates organic certification through use of mobile devices.
