I collaborate, e-collaborate, we collaborate
PSO and IICD stimulate the use of e-tools for development through a publication. What e-tools do development workers use and what are their experiences and insights?
New web technologies have great potentials to bridge long distances within international development cooperation. They offer many possibilities for knowledge sharing, mutual development, collaboration, dialogue and interaction. E-tools such as Skype do not only make communication less costly, they also have the prospective to intensify the nature and relation of the collaboration. PSO and IICD wanted to inspire organisations or individuals and decided to publish a booklet with experiences and insights in using e-tools for development:
‘I collaborate, e-collaborate, we collaborate.
A collection of stories about e-collaboration experiences’.
The booklet contains 14 stories of Dutch-based Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) which have experience in using specific e-tools. The booklet covers well-known e-tools like Skype, Wiki and Moodle but also tools such as Groove, Teamspeak, and Del.icio.us. All stories explain the tools and what you can do with the tools. Practical experiences of users are also included.
An example: Del.icio.us
Del.icio.us is an online tool (http://del.icio.us/). Its potential is described in just 3 words on the website: keep, share and discover. Information on the internet can be collected, shared and discovered online with this social bookmarking tool. All the information stored on del.icio.us is public, so everybody can see and search all the collected bookmarks of other people. If you are looking for information on for example ‘innovation’ you can use del.icio.us to find a wealth of links which have been marked by others as useful. In the booklet, IICD describes its experiences in using this e-tool.
