Partners from Six Countries Meet for Gender and ICT Event
Nov 24 2009, Netherlands [NL]
IICD-partners from Africa and Latin America will come together from 1-4 December to exchange experiences on how Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can contribute to addressing gender equity and women empowerment issues in development. The event brings together partners from Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Zambia, Ecuador and Bolivia and will take place in The Hague, The Netherlands.
The partners will share experiences, ideas and good practices gained from practical implementation of programmes using ICT to address gender equity and women empowerment issues. The partners’ initiatives use ICT to address a diverse range of topics. These examples include support services for victims of domestic violence, strengthening of female indigenous leaders, capacity building of disadvantaged women in the use of social networking tools, promotion of women’s shea butter producers’ cooperatives, and more.
The Gender & ICT event is one of this year’s Cross Country Learning Events (CCLE). These events are organised by IICD to support the sharing of knowledge between implementing partners, not only for mutual learning, but also to harvest and analyse the lessons learned for these to be shared with the broader ICT4D community. The learning events are generally organised around the themes: Livelihoods/Agriculture, Education, Health and Gender.
