Through the projects and programmes carried out by partner organisations, IICD managed to reach more than six million people in Africa, Latin America and The Caribbean in 2008. These and other results can be found in IICD’s annual report of 2008 that is now available online.

Farmers, doctors, teachers, government officials and many others in Bolivia, Ghana, Uganda, Ecuador, Jamaica, Mali, Burkina Faso, Tanzania and Zambia benefited from IICD’s work. In 2008 IICD was involved in 120 projects, programmes and policy-making processes. Of these projects 12 were linked to improving access and quality of education, 14 projects focused on improving transparency and efficiency in governance and helped to improve citizen participation; 18 projects aimed to improve the quality and access of health care and 31 projects helped farmers and small-scale entrepreneurs to improve their livelihoods.

To achieve more impact, and reach out to a wider audience, IICD and its partners have increased their participation in larger-scale leveraging programmes and policy formulation processes. By the end of 2008, IICD was involved in 10 leveraging programmes and 9 policy processes.

Through the projects and programmes carried out by partner organisations, IICD managed to reach around 618,000 active users who directly benefited from the ICT facilities and information that those projects provided and around 5.5 million beneficiaries, who benefited indirectly from having access to information and communication.

To further improve expertise development on the use of ICTs for development purposes, IICD also continued to facilitate knowledge sharing and harvested and disseminated lessons learned from the countries. Furthermore, IICD worked on the strengthening of the organisation and made steps to become a learning organisation .

By publishing the complete annual report online  IICD hopes to improve access and transparency of its results and show at the same time the dynamics of an organisation like IICD; this year’s annual report is again enriched with several case studies and video’s about successful projects in the last year.  Having an online annual report also shows that corporate social responsibility is part of IICD's core business. Concretely in this case this means that there won’t be any paper waste.
