IICD private partner Inter Access has won the Computable Magazine Award for Most Socially Responsible ICT Company of the Year 2008. The Dutch IT consultancy received the nomination from the Dutch magazine for the support it has given, in partnership with IICD, to various ICT projects in Africa.

Hosted by Computable’s Editor, Alex Beishuizen, the ceremony was attended by a veritable who’s who in the Dutch IT industry. Other awards handed out went to Cap Gemini for Best IT Hardware Supplier and IBM, for Best IT Service Supplier.

Inter Access is an independent Dutch ICT service provider with over 1,100 employees, who focus on medium-sized organisations in the public, finance, trade and industry sectors. Launched in May 2006, a partnership agreement was signed with IICD in order to collaborate in the field of e-Governance in Africa. The aim of the partnership was to promote innovations in the public sector as well as increase the knowledge regarding e-Governance in five African countries - Burkina Faso, Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. More specifically, the partnership was initiated in order to share expertise with particular regard to new technologies and future developments, existing products and organisational networks.

Since the agreement was signed, seven consultants have been engaged in support of various IICD-supported projects. This support has ranged from giving workshops in PHP, to trainings in information systems and database design, as well as research and consultancy. Their support has been extended to a variety of our local partners and projects, including I-Network and the E-Society project in Uganda. They have also been involved in giving strategic and technical advice regarding information centres and the development of web portals.
