Boosting the TICBolivia network: participation in public policies

by admin last modified 2006-06-14 11:58
Country: Bolivia [BO]

The TICBolivia network has been encouraging initiatives centered upon ICT supported sustainable development.

In Bolivia, it is time of political and social changes and, while some of these changes are calling the attention of mass media at a global level, others are encouraging different local sectors to hope for the creation of a better future.

In 2004, a process of consultations was started in order to formulate the National Strategy for the use of ICTs for development (ETIC). This process, supported by IICD, involved many different sectors and actors in a string of events that took place in the capital cities of the nine Departments. The achievements and the expertise of the TIC Bolivia network members were the essential input for the production of a final document in tune with the actual needs of the people.

Following on from these consultations the TIC Bolivia network set its agenda in motion on February 20 to 23, 2006, during a four-day meeting that took place in Santa Cruz de la Sierra. This report sets out the issues that were discussed and stresses that first steps were taken towards the founding of a collective platform for the lobbying of policies, under the umbrella of the Network TICBolivia.
