The first comic CD Rom to be designed by a Ghanaian on HIV/AIDS with a special focus on the youth, was formally launched in a preview in Accra last week, much to the delight of a cross section of students drawn from a number of second cycle institutions in the city.

The CD in comic form titled 'AIDS The Ultimate Killer' tells the story of two friends who discover the deadly effects of HIV/AIDS and decide to tell others about it. Their story is told, using friendly images that appeal to the young audience for whom it is intended.

The production of the CD is the result of collaboration between the Ghana Information Network for Knowledge Sharing (GINKS) www.ginks.org , which is involved in promoting the use of Information and Communication technologies and IICD, coupled with the ingenuity of the designer, Mr. George Sylvester.

According to Mr. John Yanulis, Country Director of World Education, youth had been watching and hearing the same messages through the media on AIDS, and exhaustion was now setting in. So there was the need for new ideas and fresh ways to help them embrace information technology in order to go forward. World Education is a non- profit organization located in the country for the past three years and dedicated to the prevention and mitigation of the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Korantema Adi Darko, a member of the advisory board of GINKS, said in furtherance of the organization's mission to promote ICT as a tool for development in the country, the CD was produced with the sole aim of complementing the existing campaigns of the Ghana AIDS Commission and other civil society groups working on prevention of the disease and, to most importantly, get the prevention message in an innovative and interesting manner to school pupils across the country.
