IICD Project Partner Receives Decoration of Knight of the Burkinabe Order of Merit
Mar 26 2010, Burkina Faso [BF], Livelihood opportunities
The President of the IICD-supported Burkinabe farmer organisation FEPPASI has been awarded one of Burkina Faso’s highest honours. Moussa Dagano received the decoration of Knight of the Burkinabe Order of Merit at the beginning of March 2010.
Dagano was knighted thanks to his continuous efforts to integrate ICT within the daily practice of farmer groups in the Sissili region. Dagano’s organisation FEPPASI (Fédération Provinciale des Producteurs Agricoles de la Sissili) unites some 96 farmer groups, with approximately 2400 members. Largely because of Dagano’s efforts, ICT is now used within FEPPASI as a training tool to increase production and as an agricultural marketing tool to increase revenues.
Dagano received the award on the National Farmers day on the 5th of March. IICD mainly assisted Dagano’s organisation in the set up of two small telecentres in the villages of Bieha and Boura. In these centres and in FEPPASI’s headquarters in Leo, computers were installed and members of the farmers’ federation received training in the use of internet and multimedia tools to develop training materials. In Leo and Boura, FEPPASI is sharing its internet connection with neighbouring organisations through a wireless network.
More information about Dagano's accomplishments can be found the news article (in French) in the Burkinabe newspaper Sidwaya.
