IICD brings online learning to Afrikadag
Apr 09 2009
With an interactive stand and the online participation from a school class in Ghana, IICD will focus on learning through the internet at this year's Afrikadag, an international event in The Hague on April 25.
At an interactive stand and in a workshop, IICD presents the Global Teenager Project. This project links students from schools all over the world in an online learning platform where they can share their cultures and visions.
The interactive stand of IICD will feature a lounge area with computers where Afrikadag visitors can talk to Ghanaian students online who participate in the Global Teenager Project. The conversations will be displayed on a big screen. After the event all the conversations will be shown on a special section of the IICD website. Visitors can also have their picture taken which will be displayed next to their comment.
In the afternoon there will also be a special workshop where participants have the chance to explore the Global Teenager Project even more. Ghanaian schoolteacher Emifa Ansah will talk about how exactly she incorporates the Global Teenager Project in her classes. Furthermore the participants of the workshop will have the chance to work in Learning Circles, the virtual environment in which the Global Teenager Project operates. In these circles range of topics can be discussed from immigration and HIV to local foods. In the Learning Circle in the workshop, the Ghanaian students will also participate through the internet.
Afrikadag is an annual event organised by the Evert Vermeer Stichting, a Dutch organisation that aims to improve international solidarity in politics. At Afrikadag African organisations and organisations that work in Africa present themselves and people can participate in over forty workshops. There are also many speakers such as Paul Rusesabagina, the human rights activist and hotel manager whose remarkable life story was told in the movie ‘Hotel Rwanda’ and the Dutch Minister for Development Cooperation Bert Koenders.
Afrikadag is held at the Haagse Hogeschool in The Hague on April 25 from 9:30 am to 6 pm. The Global Teenager workshop will be held from 2:30 pm until 4 pm. You can find IICD’s stand in the Media corner. At the website of Afrikadag it is possible to sign up for the workshop
