The award, presented by President John Agyekum Kufuor at the 14th National Best Teacher Award/World Teachers' Day ceremony, is in recognition of the dedication Mr Boateng has displayed in his role as ICT coordinator at the high school, and his promotion of ICT in the classroom, particularly through activities such as the GTP Learning Circles.

Described as a “selfless and talented” teacher, Boateng, 42, has been a pioneering spirit within the Ghanaian chapter of the GTP project, continuously demonstrating its educational benefits. He has inspired a huge turn out for the learning circles in his own classroom and currently has the highest figures for participation in the Learning Circles.

Mr Boateng receives a house worth GH¢60,000 (€40,000), which can be built at a site of his own choosing. He also receives a fully accessorised computer.
