Enhancing mango export from Mali

On Friday Feb 1, 2008, the Fresh Food Trace web platform of the mango-exporting company FRUILEMA GIE in Mali was proudly presented before a large audience in Mali's capital Bamako. The platform, born from a fruitful tripartite partnership between Fruilema, IICD and Manobi, will help the mango exporters in Mali to further enhance the traceability of their products and to maintain GlobalGap certification standards.
The platform, whose underlying technology was developed by Manobi, provides a powerful application for automating and visualizing all data related to the production, conditioning, transport and export of mango's from Mali.
According to Manobi CEO Daniël Annerose, Internet and mobile
technology can be powerful tools for development, but people, economic
development and entrepreneurship should stay at the heart of proposed
solutions. In that perspective, he praised the dynamism and enthusiasm
he encountered while working with the Malian partners from Fruilema.
For IICD Country Programme Manager François Laureys, the web platform is a concrete result of the fruitful tripartite partnership with Manobi and Fruilema. "Once a trust basis was established on all sides, the collaboration has started to yield impressing and very concrete results in a fairly short time ", he states. "The next challenge for Fruilema will be to update the database on a very regular basis and to further market their products in Europe. But prospects are good if we continue the partnership on the same positive line as in the past 6 months."
