Charity Auction Raises over 40,000 Euro for IICD and War Child
Nov 25 2009, Netherlands [NL], Education
A charity auction has raised 43,500 euro for charity organisations IICD and War Child. The auction was organised and visited by IT-directors of major Dutch and International Companies on November 16.
The auction took place during CIO Day 2009 in The Netherlands. On this day, IT-directors of both Dutch and international companies come together to meet their peers and discuss current trends in their line of work. An auction for one or more good causes always marks the start of this event.
The auction is an initiative of the CharITy foundation. This foundation aims to increase the Corporate Social Responsibility of Dutch and international IT companies or IT-departments of companies. Every year one or two organisations are selected who work towards bridging the digital gap between the global north and the global south. This year IICD and War Child were picked.
IICD and War Child will divide the 43,500 euro that was raised. The support towards IICD will be invested directly in the Global Teenager Project This programme connects thousands of pupils worldwide through virtual classrooms where wikis, chat programmes, email and text messages connect children worldwide. Children discuss topics such as rainforests, entrepreneurship, sports, and in this way learn from each other’s cultures and playfully master their computer skills.
