The online annual report provides an overview of the work that was done by IICD and partners in nine different countries with regard to ICT for development (ICT4D). It covers results from our work in the field, knowledge sharing on ICT4D experiences as well as the developments within the organisation of IICD. The report is larded with video case stories, animated graphics and interviews with IICD staff to give more background information on the actual impact of IICD’s work and the context of IICD’s work.

In 2007 IICD continued working on its mission to assist people in nine countries in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean to create practical and sustainable solutions that connect people and enable them to benefit from ICT to improve their livelihoods and quality of life. Solutions have been found in integrating both modern and traditional communication tools – computers and the Internet alongside radio and television – as a way of connecting people and empowering them to change their own situation. In the year under review over 130 pilot projects, benefiting 6.4 million people, used ICT for either generate better incomes for farmers, giving people access to education, creating better learning environments, improving healthcare in rural regions, or for voicing the needs of underprivileged people and helping them to organise themselves.

To further increase the impact of these pilot projects IICD paid extra attention to knowledge sharing and end-users training as a way of strengthening their organisational and institutional capacities. In addition, IICD used the experiences gained from the projects to develop large-scale ICT4D programmes with partners as a way to increase not only impact, but also outreach.
