IICD partners from Burkina Faso, Ghana, and Zambia co-launched a call for stronger support for youth involvement in agriculture and ICT. This was done at a 3-day youth and new technologies workshop in Accra in March organised by the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA).
Participants from 18 African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries came together for three days of training and discussion. On the third day, the call was launched and sessions were held around topics such as ‘challenges and opportunities for youth in agriculture’ and ‘ICT opportunities for youth in agriculture and rural areas.’ The latter was hosted by IICD. Some of IICD’s partners also shared their ICT experience with the other youth invited by CTA.
One of the IICD partners who presented his case was Isaac Chanda. He represented the Ndola Resource Centre in Zambia, where students are trained in the use of computers to increase their employability. The resource centre now also trains students in other centres how to use computers and internet in their daily work.
