Johan Kooij Fellowship goodwill ambassador Mrs. Libert Kooij urges local organizations to support poor schools with computers to enable them to cope with ICT for development.

Mrs. Libert Kooij and her son visited the Global Teenager Country Coordinator Jacob Malihoja in Dar es Salaam, during their travels through the country. Mrs. Kooij is the widow of the late Mr. Johan Kooij and goodwill ambassador of the Johan Kooij Fellowship Network, which enables the local Global Teenager Country Coordinators to participate in a support and exchange programme. In 1999, IICD and Media Plaza jointly initiated a fellowship in memory of the late Mr. Johan Kooij, former Chairman of KPN, who strongly believed in the power of education and ICT to bring people together.

Mrs. Kooij and her son visited three schools that participate in the Global Teenager Project, namely Shaaban Robert Secondary School, Makongo High School and Metropolis Secondary School. Mrs. Kooij expressed her gratitude to Jacob Malihoja and the schools for their hospitality, and she encouraged local companies in countries like Tanzania to support the acquisition of necessary equipment such as computers by poor schools in their countries. Mrs. Kooij presented the Learning Circle publication to the headmasters of the three schools. The event was covered in the national Swahili newspaper, Majira.
