On 5 September 2001, the Global Teenager Project began its activities in Tanzania when three schools decided to participate in the Learning Circles.

GTP in Tanzania
The country coordinator of the Global Teenager Project in Tanzania, Mr. Jacob Malihoja Mbawala, organised a launch in Dar es Salaam, where an official from the Tanzanian Department of Education opened the GT project. The new project manager of IICD, Nele Blommestein, was also present, in addition to the headmasters of the participating schools and their students. Symbolical, the official presented the latest Learning Circle booklet to one of the students, to start the project.

Schools and Learning Circles
Three schools will participate in the Learning Circles, starting this September; Jitegemee Highschool, Makongo Highschool and Shabaan Robert Highschool. In a Learning Circle, students communicate with other classes all over the world about a specific topic. The topics the schools chose are nature, human rights and globalisation. Mr. Mbawala has plans to facilitate four more schools in the next Learning Circle in March.
