Participants from around the world satisfied with experience sharing event in Mali last modified 2009-07-02 12:38: Partners of IICD in the livelihoods sector from around the world came together to share experiences in a so called Cross Country Learning Event at the end of 2008. The event was greeted with a lot of enthusiasm, as a recently released video shows.
IICD Partner in Zambia to co-organise major eLearning event last modified 2009-07-01 12:16: eBrain, the national ICT4D network in Zambia and IICD partner since 2002, will play a key role in organising the 2010 eLearning Africa Conference in Lusaka, Zambia. This annual international conference is the biggest event in digital learning in Africa.

This nomination is an acknowledgement for the work they do with IICD in Tanzania and Zambia.
Rural Wireless Network Success in Tanzania last modified 2009-06-24 13:05: The first evaluation of a pilot in Tanzania to provide affordable internet access to rural communities through a shared wireless (mesh) community network has been completed, and the results look promising.
Making Sure Blood Donors Only Have to Register Once in Zambia last modified 2009-06-23 15:46: Soon, blood donors in the Western, Copperbelt and Lusaka province of Zambia will only have to register once with the Zambia National Blood Transfusion Service if they want to donate blood, even if they have moved from one province to another. A computer system will digitalise registration and send SMS messages to blood donors reminding them that they can donate blood again.
Using PDAs in Bolivia to Monitor Organic Crop Production last modified 2009-06-23 12:15: Extension workers from the Bolivian farmers’ organisation Fundación AUTAPO will start using small Personal Digital Assistant devices (PDAs) with a Global Positioning System (GPS) in the field from August 2009, as a result of an IICD-supported initiative. The device will enable workers to speed up the process of certification for organic Quinoa, collect data to counteract the desertification process, and check and visualise crop production levels more easily.
Farmers in Uganda Access Timely Market Information last modified 2009-06-17 12:19: IICD and SNV Netherlands Development Organisation will work together on the Market Access Programme called Rural Information Systems centres in Uganda.
More Than Six Million People Reached with IICD-supported Programmes in 2008 last modified 2009-06-08 09:49: Through the projects and programmes carried out by partner organisations, IICD managed to reach more than six million people in Africa, Latin America and The Caribbean in 2008. These and other results can be found in IICD’s annual report of 2008 that is now available online.
Monitoring and Evaluation System Reaches Milestone last modified 2009-05-28 13:05: IICD’s system to provide project partners a tool to measure their impact and learn from the results has reached a milestone in May. Since its launch in 2003, the system has been used to fill in 25,000 questionnaires.
Using fast internet in Ghana without a chance of getting into debts last modified 2009-05-25 14:56: In many of IICD’s projects internet connection is often unreliable, too slow and too expensive. An answer to this problem could be a high quality direct satellite connection but for most project partners, the monthly fees for such connections are too high. The Pay-As-You-Go system used in Ghana could be a solution for these problems.
